Florence Obinim now calls herself “Queen Florence the Lioness” amid marriage split

Gospel musician Florence Obinim is introducing herself to audiences as “Queen Florence the Lioness” in a video circulating online. A video posted on her Facebook page carries that name, signalling a change in the way she presents her music career.

The introduction has attracted attention because it comes amid a very public breakdown in her marriage to Bishop Daniel Obinim. In audio reported by Pulse Ghana on 14 September, the bishop said their marriage was over and asked Florence to stop using his surname. The account is his statement about their relationship; it does not, by itself, establish the status of any formal court divorce.

This shift did not come entirely without warning. During a June interview, Florence said she would be open to a different stage name if circumstances required it. Reports in September also noted that a social media account associated with her had adopted “Lioness Ministries” branding.

Whether “Queen Florence the Lioness” will replace “Florence Obinim” across her music releases remains to be seen. For now, the video offers a clear glimpse of how she wants to be introduced publicly. A stage name is not necessarily a legal change of name, and the video does not explain the precise legal status of the marriage.
